You can't miss those mountains when you fly into that city from the east.
There's all this evidence leading up to it, crevices and curves that feel exclusively locked into the west coast, but catching the beautiful pearl of Vancouver reflect on the surrounding mountains is something else.
It all came rushing in like I had never left.
"I know this place and it knows me," I thought.
I was secretly hoping my love would've diminished, but all the familiarity and friends stormed right back in.
I spent time in the comfort of my favourite hoods with my face planted in my favourite coffee. My heart made like a mole right into the B.C. ground.
After over a year in Toronto, I still felt like I was on loan, being rented. I was always a book going back to the library, eventually.
I scooped up all the fresh sea air and late nights with my best mates, folding the memories up and boarding the plane back. I missed it terribly and I was torn right down the middle.
My heart pumped out Vancouver, but my legs pumped to Toronto.
Yet knowing I wasn't meant to feel like a borrowed book, I came back expectant.
I knew there was something significant for me in Toronto.
So, I sat at the drawing board as winter thawed, the next project starting to rummage in my hands.
To be continued...
Why 12 for Toronto?
I want anyone, from a first-time tourist to the seasoned city veteran, to wander through our shops and have their eyes hook on a colourful film photograph taken from right here in our neighbourhoods.
To be able to pen a simple note to someone, not on outdated souvenir paper, but on a meaningful alternative they can send not only from them, but from this diverse, beautiful, commanding beast of a city.
I want these notes to go around the world.
For pieces of Toronto to land everywhere to exclaim the goodness and pride we have in our home.
EACH CARD IS AVAILABLE TODAY, WITH A BOXED SET OF ALL 12 AVAILABLE AT THE END OF THE SERIES ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 28!
