I get a big case of the cringes when I see crap design and cheese stock photography married together on a rack with a dollar sign above it.
When I see this in Toronto, I want to haul around a mobile paper shredder as the mascot for my inevitable riot.
This place is too unique, alive, fascinating, and aggressive to have paper odes falling flat and serving no justice to our YYZ.
And what do you do when there is a problem?
You fix it.
So I went around for a couple months, snapping up this city in Polaroids and congregating in my studio to see if I had 12 I could run with.
I wrote little notes on the back to explain why a particular shot was interesting or wonderful and sent them off to print.
I want anyone, from a first-time tourist to the seasoned city veteran, to wander through our shops and have their eyes hook on a colourful film photograph taken from right here in our neighbourhoods.
For them to be able to pen a simple note to someone, not on outdated souvenir paper, but on a meaningful alternative they can send not only from them, but from this diverse, beautiful, commanding beast of a city.
I want these notes to go around the world.
For pieces of Toronto to land everywhere to exclaim the goodness and pride we have in our home.
Now they can.
